When Tarot meets South East Asia in Washington

Alexandra and Sam’s wedding in early October at Black Diamond Gardens in Black Diamond,Washington, was a delightful blend of color and countries. Alexandra is heavily into tarot and astrology but found ways to incorporate Sam’s Cambodian heritage in meaningful ways throughout the day.

The day started with Alexandra getting into her beautiful dress on site in the getting ready cabin. With her three bridesmaids helping she out the finishing touches on her wedding look and headed out for first looks. We did two first looks with each of her Dads she’s grown up with, a beautiful touch appreciated by someone else from a blended family. Her stepdad started crying so I know he appreciated the gesture.

After the dads had departed, the bride and groom did a “first touch” which I had never done before. I’ve seen photos of them but hadn’t had the chance to coordinate one and it was quite tricky but we managed to pull it off. Sam and Alexandra had a quick minute saying hi to each other and then they both went away to get ready for the ceremony.

The officiant for this bride and groom was actually someone I knew from a previous marriage at Trinity Tree Farm so it was lovely to see them again. Robbie is a wonderful soul who injected a lot of humor into Sam and Alexandra’s wedding ceremony while not pulling focus from them. The bride walking down the aisle was the first time he got to see her and it was a sweet moment as he looked up and saw her in her dress, the smile on his face could not have gotten any bigger.

After the ceremony we did all the family and wedding party photos quickly so that the bride and groom could enjoy some of cocktail hour but I did manage to sneak them away for some couple photos on the dock before dinner. And I’m glad I did because I was in a food coma after all the delicious food they served! Two whole pigs were roasted and there were plates and plates of Cambodian dishes and it was all absolutely amazing. Normally when I’m offered a to-go box at a wedding I politely decline but at this one I was asking for a second box it was that good.

Once everyone had their fill, the bride and groom shared their first dance before Alexandra suprised Sam with a blessing dance from a local Cambodian dance troupe. Another thoughtful detail. Alexandra then shared a first dance with both of her Dads before they all opened the dancefloor to dance the night away!
